Three Coopers

Josh and Nikki have taken over this lovely 17th-century inn, and it’s a great place to stay in Bedale. The rooms are small but comfortable, the owners make it feel warm and friendly, and breakfast is excellent. They’ve improved the beer range, which is delightful.

We had an extremely pleasant stay in the centre of Bedale over the jubilee weekend. It’s a lovely little pub, the rooms looked fresh and were clean, and the staff were welcoming. The resident dogs are adorable. The building has lovely sash windows, as you’d expect in somewhere so old. We didn’t eat there apart from breakfast on the first morning, when the chap running things put out fresh fruit and yoghurt as well as a full fry-up. He was doing a grand job, especially as I believe the landlady was ill and had just had an operation. I hope she’s recovering well. Sending our best wishes. Our friends’ bed was completely fine, but the bed in our room, I think it was room 1, was especially uncomfortable and creaky. I ended up sleeping on the floor because it was comfier and quieter when I moved. One of us is a very light sleeper, and I’m fidgety and don’t sleep much, so that bed was a bad combination for us. A chair would have helped too, since when I can’t sleep I usually get up to read, but couldn’t this time. The rooms were otherwise clean and tidy. There’s plenty to do in the area, and the room had a folder with sightseeing ideas and activities. It also had a little fridge for milk for tea or coffee, and some condiments were provided, as you’d expect at a B&B or hotel. The bed issue is the only reason for four stars, so please don’t let it put you off staying. If you can, ask for a room other than 1.

We booked at the last minute and it was a good choice. The room was very well equipped, Sara made us feel welcome, and the breakfasts were brilliant.

A fantastic local pub, with friendly owners who make you feel welcome and have a bit of humour. The small beer garden is one of the nicest I’ve been in.
