The location, in the university quarter near the museum and botanical gardens, is very good, and the staff were genuinely nice. Belfast accommodation gets very expensive, especially on weekends, so the price was what made me stay. It’s a proper hostel, though, with at least half the guests being migrants, workers or other people rather than tourists. I was fine with that, but I can see some tourists feeling uncomfortable. My room was okay and nicely heated for winter. There are lockers, free luggage storage before and after checkout, a large kitchen and decent WiFi, with no problems during my stay. Cleanliness was the main issue. There was soap and toilet paper, but parts of the place were noticeably dirty, and the microwave looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. That seemed to reflect the general cleaning routine. Unless you’re on a tight budget, tourists might find somewhere with more atmosphere.

The bathroom facilities were clean, and lockers were available. We were in the student area, about a 20-minute walk from the main bars and city centre. Michael made sure we had a room where we felt safe as female travellers, and he was lovely, full of recommendations, and open to hearing about any issues. Everyone was really friendly, and we even went out with some people we met there. We had an amazing stay. Would 100% recommend, and thanks to Michael for having us!

Great area for pubs and cafés, and the staff were relaxed. The guests seemed a bit more mature. The WiFi didn’t work on the top floor. I liked the place and will go back. I’m more comfortable with somewhere a bit run-down than with hospital-level hygiene.

This was the worst hostel stay I’ve had. It felt unsafe the whole time, with strangers around and what seemed like random homeless people sleeping in the lobby. I felt like someone might rob me while I slept. The place is decrepit and filthy, with bugs on the floors, and I got bitten by bed bugs. The bathrooms looked as if they were cleaned once a day, and the corridors smelled of smoke and weed. The kitchen and bathroom state in the video is shocking. There’s no privacy at all. The mattresses are okay, but the bunk frames are so poor that every little movement shakes the whole bed and bothers whoever’s above or below. The woman at check-in was rude, unfriendly and mocking. I was polite and thanked her, but she didn’t look me in the eye or say thanks back. It feels like the owners run the place purely for profit and don’t care about you. I can confidently say, avoid this place like the plague. Try Airbnb for a cheap alternative.

Not recommended for travellers. The heating didn’t work in the room or toilet, and it wasn’t comfortable. The bedding and kitchen were dirty, and the lockers were broken. It didn’t feel safe either: strangers were around the hostel, some coming into rooms late at night, and some visitors were definitely homeless.
