The Gregory Guest House

We’ve just finished four nights here. The rooms are nice, but some things are unusual: you pull a rope to turn on the bathroom light, and there’s no hot water at the sink. For hot water in the shower, you first have to pull another rope to power it, then press the button on the unit once you’re inside to start the water. The layout is puzzling too. Why put a family suite on the third floor in a building with no lift? Be ready to carry your luggage upstairs. Breakfast was frustrating. The woman working there knew very little English. I asked for a fried egg and got scrambled, then asked for ice and she didn’t understand. I walked her into the kitchen and pointed to the ice maker, but was told I couldn’t be in there. I don’t know if I’d stay again.

I can’t recommend this place. Parking is extremely limited, so arriving late leaves you out of luck. The toilet and shower are outside the room, and unfortunately they weren’t clean. Do yourself a favour and pay a little more to book somewhere better.

The parking is the only reason I took a star off. There weren't many spaces, and getting around some of the tight turns in the on-site lot was tricky. The room decor and location were faultless, though. It was my first stay and I'd definitely book again.

The front desk sorted out our Hop-on-Hop-off bus tour booking, and we had a really nice meal at a hotel just a few doors away. We spent two nights at The Gregory Belfast in October. Our room was comfortable, and the 25-minute walk into central Belfast was fine for us. Breakfast was OK, though we had to pay extra for it, unlike at many of the B&Bs where we've stayed.
