Blue Bell Hotel

The place felt tired, smelly and badly understaffed. We arrived to find one staff member passed out in the lobby, with a strong smell of cooking oil. They were unwell, and the only other employee was so caught up in a dozen tasks that they hadn’t noticed. I understand it’s an old building, but worn carpet runners were exposed where the carpet had given out. That evening, one poor woman was checking guests in, working behind the bar and serving in the restaurant all at once. She was run ragged. The bar had no vodka or orange juice, and several beers were unavailable because they’d run out. The Wi-Fi was broken, so card payments weren’t accepted. Dinner was okay, but breakfast was horrid. Bacon and sausages sat on a tray kept warm by an oil burner, and the mushrooms were heated the same way, with the food directly over the flame. It burned and filled the dining room and entrance with a horrible smell. Again, one employee was rushing between three jobs. Tables were left dirty, and guests had to ask for one to be cleaned before they could eat. More staff are urgently needed, and the place is well overdue for a thorough deep clean.
