The menu had an outstanding choice, and the food was fantastic. We stopped for Sunday lunch before driving home, and the setting and service were great too. There’s good parking, but I’d book ahead: it filled up soon after we arrived at 13.00. We’d highly recommend a visit and will definitely be back.

The staff were so friendly and chatty, and the food was fantastic, with generous portions. We had dinner and breakfast in the dog-friendly bar by the fire, and our room was close by. The room was clean, well presented, warm, cosy, comfortable, and spacious. There were the usual tea and coffee facilities, plus a coffee machine, delicious Vikki sponge cakes, and spirits. They’d even left a dog bed, which our elderly Husky found very comfortable. It’s in a nice location, with a large car park, and was great for our short weekend break. Highly recommend. We’ll be back. Thanks for a great weekend.

The food blew us away. Full compliments to a very talented Chef, I couldn’t fault a thing. It’s an absolutely gorgeous pub, and the bar staff were lovely. Keep it up, guys. I’ll be back soon!

We’re a couple who are hard to please, especially with our backgrounds as an ex-restaurant manager and a highly regarded chef. We know what good food and service beyond expectations take, so we make a point of telling people when somewhere surprises us. This meal was simply fantastic, and we’ve booked for Tuesday and Thursday night this week because we can’t imagine finding anywhere to rival it. The booking process and welcome on arrival were warm and pleasant, and we were shown straight to our table. My wife asked for her Roast Beef dinner to be well done, and they accommodated her without question. I had the Beef Wellington with an extra Yorkshire Pud and a small jug of extra gravy, which they were happy to provide. The freshly baked bread came with real butter at room temperature, so it spread perfectly. The bread was a little special too, with the smell of real yeast and a taste that showed how much care had gone into it. The meal arrived in less than 20 minutes, and the vegetables were hot, blanched, and well seasoned. The parsips were sweet and tender, and possibly honey roasted. They were the best I’ve had, and I could have eaten a whole plate of them. The greens had a lovely snap and lots of flavour. I think there were leeks in the cauliflower cheese, which gave it a beautiful lift. The hassle back potatoes were so tasty and well seasoned I was tempted to ask for more. My wife’s well-done beef was tender and fell apart on the fork, and the gravy was real gravy, not packet gravy. The Beef Wellington was divine. As a pastry chef, I expected the pastry might be the weakest part, but it was perfect, a warm introduction to the rest of the dish. The mushroom and pate layer seemed homemade and high quality, and the fillet beef was superb, cooked perfectly medium rare. A serrated knife usually makes me worry the meat will be tough, but this was so tender I could have cut it with a wooden spoon. It’s the best Beef Wellington I’ve ever eaten, even compared with ones I’ve made myself. The Yorkshire puddings were real and homemade. As a proud Yorkshire man, they tasted like home: beautifully cooked, not too soft or doughy, with a crisp top and a perfect rise. Everything was seasoned so well that neither of us needed the salt or pepper. I had to write down what we’d experienced between courses so I wouldn’t forget. We were sure the puddings would be exceptional, so we ordered three desserts to share: Apple Strudel, Banana and Salted Caramel Cheesecake, and Blueberry and Almond Roulade. The dessert menu was a lengthy, mouth-watering ordeal. There was so much on offer we couldn’t decide, and if we’d had room, we might have ordered four. All the desserts were perfect and homemade, and I’d argue the ice creams were homemade too. The empty plate picture attached was a bit of fun to show how perfect the meal was. Trust me, the Wellington is as good as the one pictured on the website, if not better. A picture never does a good plate justice. It takes huge effort to make a meal this exquisite, especially when every detail has been considered, planned, and carefully prepared. The team here are making a massive effort, and we wanted them to know we appreciated every bit of it. Their hard work was noticed and immensely enjoyed.
