High Beach Guest House

I’d booked and paid in advance, but when I arrived I couldn’t get in. The phone number was constantly engaged, and after waiting an hour I had to be moved to another hotel by hotel.com. Parking was just on the street, free only from 6:30 at night to 8 in the morning. The place didn’t look very clean from outside either. I definitely won’t use it again.

I booked a room by phone five days ahead with the woman who runs or owns this so-called guest house. I called the day before to check, and was told everything was fine. But when we arrived, there was nobody to let us in. We waited outside for two and a half hours and called the owner, with no answer. We had nowhere to stay, so at 8 pm we left to try to find somewhere late in the evening. I hope my complaint emails reach the guest house. Ask yourself if you’d want to be left outside with a booking and nowhere to stay. Update: still no reply or contact.

The owner answered the door in stocking feet with a yapping dog around her, which should have been a warning. Our room had an ensuite, but the toilet needed about six flushes to work. We had to run the hot tap for around 20 minutes before the water was even close to hot, and the shower was nearly useless. At breakfast, the dog was allowed into the dining room and begged at the table for food. Wouldn’t recommend.

Sarah, the proprietor, lives on the same road as us, Navarino Rd. She’s welcoming, bubbly and fun-loving, and a very giving person. The place is pretty much booked out all year.
