Finding the hidden passages was a fun surprise. I found both of them! The castle itself is the setting, after all, and the rooms each have their own look, with comfortable beds and helpful, funny staff. The lounge has a lovely fireplace and doubles as the breakfast room in the morning; there's also a little bar just off it if you want a quieter spot. Breakfast was fresh, with gluten-free choices. It was windy during our stay, but we didn't hear anything odd. One small quirk: the water gets really cold if anyone in the castle flushes a toilet. Easy to forgive in a place like this. I'd come back and try another room.

We had a very large bedroom with a huge ensuite, and there was a real fire burning in the grand hall in the evening. The castle dates to the 17th century and has six bedrooms, a grand hall and a bar, with a lot of history behind it. We were warmly welcomed and shown around. Breakfast was a full Scottish meal, freshly cooked. For dinner we went to The Deck a the Isle of Eriska hotel, a couple of miles away.

The Breadalbane room was lovely, and we had a wonderful two-night Easter weekend at Barcaldine Castle. John, Patrick and Ash looked after us impeccably. I really think everyone should try staying in a Scottish castle once, and this is a great one for it.

The rooms were clean and cozy, and breakfast was delicious. Patrick and his wife were so welcoming and accommodating, with thoughtful personal touches that made the beautiful castle feel both luxurious and comfortable. It was a highlight of our trip to Scotland. We'd absolutely stay again.

The Barcaldine Room and the castle are gorgeous, and the views are immaculate. Everyone was so kind and hospitable that we felt like a lord and lady for a day. I can't recommend it enough.
