Betws-y-coed was a handy base for hiking, the location was great, and parking was easy. The bed was quite comfortable, and Ms Lee was friendly. We arrived late, and she kindly left the key outside for us. The first night, the room heating wasn’t working and the shower was lukewarm at best. We told Ms Lee the next morning. The heating was fixed later that day, but not the shower. We raised it again the following day. Ms Lee said she’d checked and thought the temperature was okay, but after we insisted, she said she’d get someone to look at it. The shower was finally fixed the night before we left, so two of our three nights were with lukewarm water. If we hadn’t kept asking, it would have been all three. It was one of the cheapest options in Betws-y-coed, so breakfast was okay, but the breakfast room was freezing, with no heating on. The whole building generally looks like it needs refurbishment.

We stayed for two nights and had no problems. It’s a small motel in a lovely natural setting, run by Lee. The rooms and amenities are very basic and need a lot of upgrading. A capable DIYer could make it a much better space. The host was lovely, breakfast was excellent, and there was practically everything needed for a decent sleep, so I have no complaints about our stay. Still, for the same money or probably less, you could easily get a Travelodge or Premier Inn. The reception area was dirty, messy and poorly organized, which may be because Lee is handling everything herself without cleaning staff. The upkeep doesn’t come close to British standards. Nobody is at reception, so you have to call and the host comes downstairs to help. I have no regrets about staying, but it seems the business relies on its location and the lack of competition nearby.

The views are amazing, and the breakfast set us up well for the day. It’s a lovely place, with tidy rooms, a comfortable bed and an excellent shower. Just outside Bettws y Coed, it’s only a 5-10 minute walk to a chippy, a couple of pubs, convenience stores, craft shops and cafes.

The Dragon Hotel made a great base for exploring the area. Our room was clean and stocked with tea and coffee, breakfast was lovely, and the woman serving it was polite and helpful. We had a perfect stay, thank you!
