Almond Tree Hotel

We left quickly and booked somewhere else because there was no way we could stay for two nights. The room wasn't clean, with cobwebs on the ceiling and by the bed, and the mattress had no support. I could feel every spring. There was black mould around the toilet, and the place smelled unpleasant when we got inside. At first there was nobody at reception and we couldn't get in; another guest let us through. I eventually reached the owner, who was pleasant and apologised, saying the staff were offsite. We had to find the room key ourselves.

The room was small, and for its size and quality I didn't think it was good value. There was dust thick enough to notice on the table, and dirty towels had been left on the floor. I had to ask someone to remove them and bring clean ones. The one staff member I met was helpful with my bags and apologised about the room, but I wasn't impressed.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the rooms were up to standard. Very good.

We had booked 11 nights while sorting out our move to Bicester from Ireland, but walked straight out. My one year old was with us, and I've never had a business encounter like this. We waited outside for 30 minutes with no staff around. A note on the window told us to call a number to check in; our calls and texts went unanswered. When the “manager” eventually strolled in, he didn't apologise and said he'd been shopping. He laughed when we explained our concerns and said, “it’s a 2 star hotel what do you expect? You can find the rooms cold, damp, dirty and there’s hair everywhere”. Outside there were cigarette ends, alcohol cans and rubbish everywhere, and guests smoked out of the windows despite the no smoking signs. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!
