Sailors Rest

The building itself was clean and tidy, but the room was a letdown. The photos gave a misleading impression of our “deluxe king room”; both the room and bathroom were small, and moss was coming through the windows. The listing mentions “free parking,” though that means street parking when a space happens to be available. When we arrived at 4 pm, there was nothing within half a kilometre, so the alternative was the pay-and-display car park.

Once we'd adjusted to there being no reception, the place turned out to be a clever and pleasant place to stay. I'd definitely come back.

We liked the view and enjoyed our night away, celebrating our 13th wedding anniversary. The room was nicely equipped, though smaller than we expected, and the bed was okay. I would've preferred a firmer mattress, but that's just personal preference. The main drawback was the noise outside: with the old single-glazed windows, we could hear people's conversations as they walked past. We stayed for one night.

Breakfast was included and served just up the road at the Royal George. It was delicious, and Sascha looked after us so well. We had a lovely off-season stay at the Sailor’s Rest. The modern room had a spectacular view, a comfy bed, a good temperature, a great shower and fresh milk in the fridge. Just perfect.
