Yapham Cottages

Martin was friendly and there if we needed him. He did a grand job filling the bird feeders every day, so we could sit in the conservatory or on the patio and watch the feeding frenzy. A lovely cream tea was waiting when we arrived. The cottage was spotlessly clean, with everything needed for a 7 night stay. It felt private and wasn't overlooked, with views of the garden and orchard. Lovely cottage in a lovely setting. There was lots to see nearby, and our favourite trip was to Hartland Quay, a short drive from Barley Cottage.

Shipload Cottage was spotlessly clean, with very comfortable beds and a constant supply of hot water. We spent a lovely week there. Thoughtful touches included a cream tea and fresh flowers in the dining area. The cottage is peaceful, with wildlife all around. Pamphlets in the lounge helped us find plenty of interesting places to visit. Martin, the manager, was readily available and helpful. He was always tending the site, watering the plants and flowers and topping up the bird feeders. I highly recommend Yapham Cottages. Hartland village is a short drive away, though you can walk there, and has a well-stocked shop, a post office, a couple of pubs with good food and a friendly coffee shop, all with free parking. A little further on, Hartland Quay has spectacular sea and rugged coast views. The main A39 is very close, with access to beautiful places.

We found the area lovely, especially if you enjoy walking and prefer somewhere that isn't too busy. Hartland Abbey is well worth a visit, as is Lundy Island. Shipload cottage is a well maintained two bedroom cottage in a quiet, peaceful setting. The bedrooms are a reasonable size with enough storage, the kitchen is well equipped and easy to use, and the lounge is spacious. There's adequate dedicated parking, an outdoor seating area and space for a washing line. Communication from the owners was excellent from booking through to arrival, during the stay and before departure. Martin, who looks after the property and grounds, is very friendly and on hand if anything comes up. We didn't have any issues. Information about the cottage, directions, local supermarkets, petrol and the area was provided thoroughly and in advance. On arrival, there were lovely scones with jam and cream, and milk.

A quiet spot, just a 5 minute drive from Hartland village and the coast. Hartland has three excellent pubs serving decent food, plus two shops for general supplies. The accommodation was comfortable, spacious and well equipped, ideal for a couple. Everything worked, it was immaculately clean when we arrived, the heating system was great and there was constant hot water.
