Holiday Inn Express Birmingham–South A45

We had such a relaxing night away, and the spa was lovely. The food was perfect, and breakfast had so much to choose from. Our room was beautiful, clean and fresh, while the staff, including the sun room cleaners, were so welcoming and helpful. ASH at reception was superb. They helped with everything we needed and were always smiling. We'll definitely come back with our children next time. Thank you ; )

The staff gave good service throughout. The lady handing out the pre-ordered breakfast was courteous and did a great job serving several guests on her own. When we contacted reception about the stained bedding, it was replaced immediately. The room itself was clean and comfortable. We stayed on 10/8/20, when breakfast was ordered from a form rather than served as a buffet because of Covid. The options were quite limited, but that was understandable given the situation. Manager Andy even came to our room to apologise in person and gave us drink vouchers.

The free breakfast was brilliant, with lots to choose from: cereal, beans on toast, eggs, croissants, fruit and even vegetarian sausage on request. There was plenty of coffee, water and apple juice too. Parking cost £4 for the night and was safe, secure and convenient. The room was well priced and a good size, though it could use a bit of updating. I didn't complain, but the top of the sofa bed needed cleaning. It's easy to find on the main road, just look out on the left. The staff didn't need to do much at all, and we had a great stay. I'd highly recommend it.

The staff did their best to make our trip comfortable, and they were understanding throughout. Our Guest Service Assistant Nicola was courteous, professional and apologetic, as was manager Alessandra. The first morning, Alessandra was approachable and sent maintenance to our room while we were at breakfast. The heat worked when we returned, but only temporarily, and the problem came back. Room 101 had heating trouble for our whole stay, which is why I'd give the visit three stars, even though the staff deserve five. They brought portable heaters and sent the in-house maintenance man to repair it, but the heating stopped working again. They knew many rooms had the same issue, and an engineer was working on the building's heating system. They offered us another room, even though the hotel seemed fully booked, and got it ready quickly. We asked to inspect it and test the heat before packing up again, which they were happy to let us do. When it was ready on the 7th floor, maintenance came along and showed us that the heating worked. But after it had been switched off, it wouldn't come on again. We chose to stay in our original room instead, and the staff did what they could to help make the trip memorable.
