The room itself was fine and everything worked except the TV. The bathroom was dated and rough around the edges, but a staff member came over promptly after I called. He couldn’t fix it, so I had to change rooms. I’d booked here because it was affiliated with Edgbaston Park Hotel and a little cheaper, but you can see why, it feels like the less cared for relation. Check-in is at EPH because there’s no reception. Free parking is available in the multi-storey beside EPH, while parking outside Peter Scott House costs extra. The second room was okay until bedtime, when the light outside started flashing. Even with the blind down it was like being at a rave. EPH offered to move me again when I mentioned it in the morning, but I didn’t want to do another room change. They said they’d get someone to look at it. The light was flashing again by bedtime, and at checkout they thought it had been fixed, but it clearly hadn’t. The bed was two singles joined together and dipped in the middle. I didn’t see another person during my two days there, which felt a little strange as a woman on my own. The fan in the room was much appreciated. It was an okay stay, but you get what you pay for. I’d already booked another stay for later in June, so I’ll see whether the light has been fixed by then.

The room was spotless, the bed and mattress were very comfortable, and the sheets and towels were good quality. The furniture, carpet, and bathroom were dated but well maintained. The shower was powerful and had hot water for all three showers a day my son takes. I liked the old-fashioned heated towel rail, too. It was quiet, and breakfast in the main hotel was lovely. It’s excellent value compared with a room in the main hotel. I was nervous after reading some reviews, but the location worked well while my son had an interview at Birmingham Uni. The booking documents clearly said to check in and collect the key at Edgbaston Park Hotel, no more than a three-minute walk away. I’d come back if my son is lucky enough to get a place at the university.

The hotel looks nothing like the pictures. It’s very dated, and the showers are mouldy and rusty. There’s one key for the entrance and your room. They said it was safe because the key only gives access to your room, but the cleaner can’t be carrying 200+ keys, can they? The cleaner also kept coming into my room when I hadn’t asked for service.

It was quiet and peaceful, apart from the noisy people upstairs on Friday night. The staff were friendly, breakfast was amazing, and the bar and food were nice, though when it got busy in the evening it was hard to find somewhere to sit. The location near the stadium is great, with a flat walk there. The rooms are dated but clean, and the old shower floods.

The furnishings were decent, but I wouldn’t stay here again. The shower went cold every 30 seconds, literally, and a constant droning noise kept me awake. It sounded like a boiler or shower next door, so I turned the fan up to its highest setting to try to cover it. My laptop also refused to connect to the WiFi because it flagged the encryption as not properly secured.
