The owners were still up to welcome me warmly when I arrived after making a late-night reservation. The pub had closed, but they waited, offered me a round of ale that I could take to my room, and had a friendly chat with me about the area. That hospitality made a big difference to my stay at the "Old Coach House at The Golden Lion" while I was travelling through the UK after finishing the NC500 on my motorcycle. The location is spectacular, and the ride in via England's highest paved road is breathtaking. It's a small, quiet town, and the owners can provide a barn to store motorcycles and bicycles securely overnight, which is a huge plus for bikers in the UK. Just ask, and they'll gladly help. Breakfast was simple but honest, and the pub had a great range of food along with excellent ale and beer. The cosy atmosphere and the owners' genuine care made the experience a pleasure. I wholeheartedly recommend it to bikers.

The drinks are good value, and they even keep dog biscuits on the bar. A great pub with lovely locals and a really friendly landlord who can't do enough. I'll come again, thank you ☺️

The people here are so lovely, warm and welcoming. It's an absolutely amazing pub with a great range of drinks, snacks and food. Would highly recommend.

It was a busy day for the two people working, but they still found time and space for the three of us to have food and drinks. The kitchen had closed when we arrived, but when I asked if they were still serving, they kindly kept it open for us. The service was fantastic, and the welcome felt like I'd known them for years. We had lasagne, a steak burger and carbonara bake. Everything was cooked perfectly, tasted great and felt made with love. A lovely little local pub. I'd highly recommend it and will definitely be back. Thank you 😊

We enjoyed our first evening here so much that we came back later in the week. They remembered us, and we had a lovely chat about our week. On that first visit, we were staying nearby and dropped in for dinner. The welcome was friendly, and the food was freshly cooked to order, piping hot, tasty and reasonably priced.
