We booked the St. George Hotel, Bishop's Stortford for the practical reason that it’s near the airport. I didn’t expect to leave so pleased with it. The room and bathroom were properly clean, the kind of clean that lets you relax without first wiping everything down. The person who welcomed us was warm and helpful. She explained where to catch the bus, which was a lifesaver, and had a lovely, human conversation with us in the middle of all the travel chaos. If you choose a hotel for an Instagram worthy look, this may not be the spot for you. You won’t find velvet armchairs or neon “good vibes only” signs. But I like character and charm, and a place that’s honest about what it offers. We felt right at home, and the hospitality felt genuine. It does what it promises, with heart. The room was clean, and the woman who showed me to it was very helpful. There’s nothing I can complain about, and lots of shops are easy to get to from this area.

The rooms are basic, but for £50 on a weekend, what do you expect? They’re clean, the bed is very comfortable, and it’s close to the airport.

Worst stay I’ve had. There was no receptionist, just a number to call for self check-in instructions. If you don’t have credit on your phone, you’re stuck waiting until someone else calls them for you. The place was very dirty, the ceiling had cracks, and the door was always open, so it didn’t feel safe.
