Fernhurst Lodge by Greene King Inns

It's a calm place with friendly, polite staff, a car park, disabled access and a beer garden if you want to sit outside. The drinks aren't too expensive, and the food is worth the price, with reasonable prices and different offers on different days. Portions are generous enough that one plate can easily make a meal for two. There was so much food, yet my oldest still managed two desserts. In my opinion, it's one of the top five places to eat in Blackburn.

The staff were pleasant, which was the only saving grace. The place needs a good clean and a makeover, and none of the ladies' toilets had a seat attached or any loo paper. We ordered the kofta flatbread and the katsu curry platter. The salad looked a week old, the sweet potato fries were cold and the koftas undercooked. The katsu chicken was undercooked and gristly, possibly not even chicken, and inedible. Some fries were hard and cold, like they were still frozen. The curry sauce was nice. We definitely won't be back.

Erv made the evening especially enjoyable. He was attentive, friendly and professional, checked that we had what we needed at the right moments, and never intruded. The atmosphere at The Ferhurst was warm and welcoming, a lovely place to unwind over dinner. The food was delicious, full of flavour and carefully prepared and presented. I'd highly recommend it and hope to return soon.

I went with the family and had a great experience. The service was great, the food was genuinely good and excellent value, and there was a big car park with plenty of seating. My expectations had been low, to be honest.
