Brecks Hotel

Mike was good to chat with, and when we had trouble with the toilet he got a plumber there within an hour. Two of the lads slept in, and Mike didn’t hassle them to get up. We had a great stay in Blackpool, with a good price and location, and a really good breakfast. We’ll be back.

The rooms and facilities were clean, and Mike and the lady we met at checkout were both lovely and friendly. We were in Blackpool for an event at the tower, which was only an 11-minute walk away. We’d stay here again if we return.

The owners were friendly, and breakfast was cooked fresh and set us up for the day. The room itself was disappointing. Its double doors, in place of a window, were locked but didn’t latch properly, leaving about a 10 mm gap for cold wind and rain. We pushed a spare single bed against them to stop the draught. The first night was freezing, including the hallway, and the radiator, set to 5, gave off no heat and was full of dust and debris. We found an electric heater, but the room’s card meter had only 68p left, which didn’t last long. The following morning we paid £5 for another electric card. The second night was more comfortable as the weather improved and we had the fan heater and door held shut. We did notice the radiators come on a couple of times, but not for long enough to keep the room warm. The layout was poor too. The TV was at a right angle to the bed, so we couldn’t watch it from the double. There were no bathroom shelf for toiletries or towel rail, and no coat hooks. The sheet was clean but had lots of holes and looked worn out. There was a single metal-framed bed, a double pine bed, and a wardrobe that had seen better days. I don’t expect much in Blackpool, but warmth and comfort should be basic. I’ve never before had to buy electric cards just to have power in a room. Since I posted the review, the owner has added a comment written as if they were a hotel guest. I’m not sure if it was meant to mislead people reading the review or if they meant to post it as their own review to boost the rating.

Breakfast was superb and the location was great. The room was basic, but clean, and you get what you pay for.
