Derby Court

The owners were rude and argumentative from the moment we arrived. We had paid £210 for three nights for two adults and one child. Two weeks before the stay, I emailed to say there’d be another adult. The reply said there was no problem and no extra charge. But when we arrived, the owner was angry about the third adult and wouldn’t show us the room until we paid another £105. He shouted at me in a cramped hallway while I was with my one-year-old. We paid, then had to find our own way to a different room than the one we booked. I don’t understand the confusion when only he and his daughter run the place. The place was dirty. There were no doors on the kitchen or bedroom, the carpet looked like it hadn’t been vacuumed, and the kitchen floor was sticky. There was mould in the cups, stains on the toilet door, someone else’s dirty razor in my bathroom, and McDonald’s wrappers and kids’ toys behind sofas and beds. My main concern was health and safety, and I had to watch my one-year-old constantly. There was a broken marble coffee table in the living room, a cupboard full of junk in my room that he could easily fall into, and loose plug sockets. The place was freezing, and banging kept us awake all night because the windows let in so much wind.
