The restaurant was a lovely place to eat, and the food was lovely. The bar area was extensive, with pool, snooker, darts, Space Invaders, and toys for kids. The restaurant lady was great, especially with our grandson. Staff were capable, though not especially welcoming otherwise. Our twin room was so cramped you couldn't swing a cat, and could have done with some TLC. The shower dripped constantly, the taps were very stiff, and the hot water was dangerously hot. The hotel feels very dated, the entrance could be awkward for elderly or disabled guests, and the Heath Robinson lift felt claustrophobic.

Breakfast and dinner were homemade and tasty, and the cosy bar had reasonable prices. We had a very satisfying weekend at this family-run hotel. The staff were welcoming and helpful, and it was excellent value for money overall. I'd recommend it. R.W.

We only planned on one night, but ended up staying three. The owners were lovely and friendly, the room and bed were comfortable, and breakfast was wonderful. We even had a bath, which was a nice bonus. Thanks for a lovely stay, highly recommended.

Getting around was easy since there's a tram stop right next door, and the price was at the cheaper end. The service was very friendly and breakfast was nice. The lobby areas have a pleasant vintage feel, but the hotel itself is old and the rooms are very dated. The mattresses were worn and uncomfortable. Toiletries were minimal, just a few bars of soap.

The restaurant shuts after 6 p.m., which was a problem when I asked the receptionist where I could get dinner. He told me I'd need to take the tram a few stops to another restaurant. But there's a huge restaurant just a two-minute walk away that takes orders until 10 p.m., and I'm sure he knew about it. Also, the hotel isn't "beachfront" as advertised. It's a 20 minute walk to the beach.
