We had to climb four flights of stairs, with the ceiling and skylight looking mouldy. The cupboards had no handles, and the room was tiny for what we paid. There were no towels, so luckily we'd brought our own, and nowhere to hang clothes for the whole weekend. The sheets and duvet cover were stained, the bed frame looked cheap, and the mattress was awful. Wallpaper was peeling and the ceiling was in bad shape too. In the bathroom, pipes showed around the shower, mould was everywhere, and the shower and toilet were broken. The sink and plasterwork were just as bad. I have asthma, and there wasn't even WiFi. The tea and coffee cups were dirty. At reception, the tiny space smelled of smoke and the woman went through the rules as though we were teenagers. When we went out, people were sitting on the sofa like it was a place full of people taking drugs. The place looked like a nightmare. The photos on booking.com seem to be from when it first opened, all lies. Worst experience. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

The location made it easy to get to the promenade, beach, activities, shops, bars and restaurants. Our room was basic, but it had what we needed, and the bed was clean and very comfortable. The private bathroom was lovely too. Michelle & Marcus were brilliant hosts, warm, friendly and happy to help with anything. We had an excellent three-night stay. Thanks again, M & M. The bed felt like bricks because its base was broken, and the fabric on the double divan was ripped open so you could see through the other side. The room also had peeling wallpaper and falling window sills. The bathroom was dated and dirty, with a few spots of mould. As soon as my family and I entered the building, the cigarette smell was really strong. We only stayed the one night, and the prices were extortionate for what we got. Never again!

We slept well, even though the place is beside a very busy seafront. The carpet in Room 10, right at the top, looked brand new, and the hosts were really friendly. They warned us that the bedroom TV didn't work, which was no problem for us. The bathroom was falling apart, though the toilet, sink and shower were clean, and they supplied towels. There was a pool table. I stayed one night with my daughter after booking at the last minute, so the only room available had a double bed. It's a very basic place, but the price was very good. I could smell fresh laundry when we came in.

It was cheap and cheerful, and the room was clean when we arrived, with tea and coffee waiting. The bed squeaked when we moved but was comfortable. The owners were among the nicest people we've met, made us feel welcome and looked after everything we needed. They even went out of their way to say hello to our daughter. I'll stay at Hotel Avansi again when we return. Thank you, Ainsley.
