The location’s the only thing going for this terrible hotel. The room was tiny, and there was only one bedside table even though it was a double bed. Shampoo and shower gel were advertised for the room but weren’t there. Breakfast was dreadful. There was a large clump of pigeon crap on the outside window ledge, which could cause a severe asthma reaction if the window were open. It wouldn’t take much to clear it, repaint and put up anti pigeon spikes, but that was apparently too much trouble. The paving flags on the steps to the entrance were cracked. We didn’t see or hear any other guests, so perhaps we were the only ones there. Avoid like the plague.

Nice staff, and close to the front, which are the good points. The hotel could be called the black pearl. The mattress had seen more action than Bruce Lee, and the floorboards creaked so much it felt like being on a sail ship. You could hear every movement.

After a three hour drive to Blackpool, I arrived in bad weather on 28th March 2026 to find the Royal Alexandra Hotel completely closed. I was left outside in the freezing cold with no warning. I’d booked through Expedia for that stay and had provided both my email address and phone number. Later, I was told a message had been sent, but it was only in a small section of Expedia that I had no reason to check. They sent no email, which would’ve been the obvious and reliable way to contact me. I had to walk around Blackpool during a busy Easter weekend looking for somewhere else at short notice. It was stressful and unnecessary, and because I had to book on the spot, I paid nearly double for another hotel. When I finally spoke to the hotel, they said I could take a 10 minute taxi to the Hotel Boston. That defeated the point of booking near Blackpool Tower, where I’d planned to walk back safely after dancing. A neighbouring hotel told me the Royal Alexandra Hotel had been closed for quite some time. Why is Expedia still allowing bookings for a property that isn’t operating? I’m utterly disgusted by the experience. A simple email notification could and should have prevented it, and this cost me time, stress and significantly more money. I strongly advise others to avoid booking here, as you can’t rely on it even being open. Tracy Garwood

It was a bit of a run down dump, but the rooms were usable. We paid 30 a night per room for a two night stay, and it did the job as a roof over our heads during a two day Blackpool pub crawl with mates. I’d stay again if I was in the area.

Check in, breakfast service and check out were all handled by friendly staff. I booked a twin for me and my daughter, but we were given a family room with two singles, a double and an ensuite shower. The self service buffet breakfast suited us fine, and the hotel was not far from Coral Island, with plenty to see and do nearby. The only thing that spoiled the stay was some other guests. They kept us awake banging and shouting, so in the early hours I had to knock on their door with my 7 year old and ask them to quiet down. I reported it to staff at checkout, and they already had complaints and were dealing with it, but it was our last night, so I don’t know how it turned out. Overall, staying here was OK.
