I was the only customer there on a midweek lunchtime, but they made me feel very welcome. The local ale was good, and the food was absolutely delicious. It’s a thoroughly charming pub on the road into Port Isaac in North Cornwall, and well worth stopping at if you come across it.

I waited an hour for breakfast on Tuesday the 10th, but nobody came to cook for the guests. The pub was dark and there wasn’t any staff, so at 9:30 I gave up and went elsewhere to eat. That’s the only reason I’ve marked service low; I’d have given five in every other area. The location and pizzas were great, the staff were lovely and welcoming, and the pub had a good range of drinks. Our room was clean enough, and the bed and linen were very comfortable.

The bed was the most comfortable I’ve slept in for years, and the food was outstanding, with premium-quality produce. The place has a relaxed, chilled feel while keeping its traditional character, and there’s so much attention to detail. Ben went above and beyond to make things work for our family, and Manny was wonderfully attentive, even with the kids being fussy at breakfast. The staff were all so friendly. It’s a magical pub in a magical part of Cornwall. We’d be regulars if we lived closer, and we’ll definitely return on our next trip.

I had the fish and chips, which were lovely, crisp and not oily, while my partner really enjoyed making a vegan pizza with the excellent bases and vegan cheese. There’s a good choice of beers, tasty food, friendly bar staff and a nice atmosphere in this old-fashioned pub. I’ll come back next time I’m in the area.

The pizzas are the best I’ve had in ages, and the drinks list is excellent, including the non-alcoholic options. They also stay open all year, even through winter when many pubs close. It’s a proper old pub with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, not somewhere posh or sophisticated. If you’ve forgotten what a pub should feel like, come here and remember. Glad this place exists!
