Emma was brilliant and took great care of us, and the person at the bar made us feel just as welcome, even though I can't remember their name. The outside doesn't give the best impression, but you shouldn't judge by appearances. We'd definitely stay again, especially if he gets me breakfast haha 🤣

The staff were friendly and attentive, and breakfast was good, especially the lovely bacon. The evening meal was a bit disappointing, with very little choice, though it was edible. There was a singer for entertainment. We arrived at 6pm along with three coach loads of people, so it was busy, but the receptionist cleared the queue quickly. The note with our key sent us to a room on the second floor. It was set up like a dormitory, with one double bed and several singles, which wasn't what we'd arranged. We weren't staying in the only room on that floor after all, and were eventually moved downstairs to the first floor. That room was much better, with fresh sheets, a tidy room and a clean bathroom. The hotel feels tired, and the lift only fits one person at a time. Would we come back? I'm not sure.

The state of the room meant my 5 year old and I couldn't stay there. The lighting and broken bed felt unsafe, and the room was dirty. Tape had been put over the light switches at my child's eye level. I wouldn't have felt comfortable there alone, let alone with a child. When we left, there were two men with drugs in the hallway. Given the condition of the hotel and what was happening there, I don't understand why they let us book with a child. I was told at checkout that I'd get my money back that day, but it took three weeks. The place was nothing like the online listing. My child and I were left traumatised. We were in the middle of nowhere, and I spent £75 on taxis and another £250 on a different hotel because it was Manchester marathon weekend. We were very lucky to find another room; without paying for it, we'd have been on the street. They didn't help find us a room elsewhere or at another britannia hotel, and offered no compensation. I paid over £100 for one night. Knowing what it was like, I wouldn't pay even £5. I'd give it minus ten stars if I could. I'll post photos on trip advisor since I can't add them here.

The hotel wasn't bad and the location was great, right by the motorway. The room was reasonable and good value, but the service was really poor. First I got a key that didn't work, then another for a room that already had someone in it. It was very embarrassing to open that door 😳.

We paid for a double room but were given two single beds when we arrived. Staff wouldn't correct the error or suggest any solution, so we had to leave straight away. They still refused to refund us. A dishonest and unprofessional place with no respect for guests. Avoid it at all costs.
