Please don't put your child in these rooms. We moved our daughter out after just two weeks. She reported problems on her first day, including broken extractor fans in a room with no window. Before we'd paid the deposit, we were only told there wasn't much natural light, not that there was no window at all. There was also a serious leak under the sink. Nothing was dealt with until we said she was leaving. Then a repair person arrived at 8 in the morning without warning, looked only at the sink, called it unrepairable, and said she should turn off the water when she wasn't using it. The fans were ignored. The fob door to the corridor didn't lock, so people from the pubs next door and opposite could get in by following someone through the main doors. The fire alarm went off every night, and firefighters said there was a fault on the board. There was rarely a concierge at the desk.

The Pack Horse was a nightmare from start to finish, and I wouldn't recommend it. The town centre location is surrounded by nightclubs, with noise every night that made a good night's sleep impossible. If you want peace and quiet, this isn't the place. The management was the worst part. When I moved out, they kept my deposit and added charges that I felt were completely bogus and unfair. They don't answer emails, and getting any kind of response was like pulling teeth. It seemed clear to me they had no interest in resolving problems or treating tenants fairly. Stay well away.

The view and accommodation are good. It's mostly quiet, and a good fit for new students.

I've stayed at The Pack Horse for two years, just booked my third, and haven't had any problems. The staff are friendly, and maintenance requests get handled promptly. I can't make sense of the negative reviews I've seen. I also wouldn't be studying for my degree now if the staff hadn't taken a chance on me. I applied to lots of student accommodations, including the University's official halls, but none would accept my guarantor because they came from a fairly poor household. The kind staff at The Pack Horse accepted them. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

The Pack Horse is noisy all the time. There's a club right beside it playing loud music until 2-3am, and one staff member is very rude at night, walking around and banging on doors. The staff during the day lie and don't get things done. My heater and lights have been broken for months. When I complained, they said my light wasn't a light and claimed the microwave had never worked, even though I used it every day. They mislead you about the rooms, sit around doing nothing, and pick and choose who they help. My parents have complained many times. If you're international, avoid this place: they're racist and picky about who they help.
