Bournemouth West Cliff Hotel & Spa

I left after two nights of a five-night booking, and I won’t get a refund. I also had to rebook all my tickets at considerable expense. After 56 years of travelling around the world, I’ve never had such a terrible place to stay. As a disabled person, I had to ask repeatedly for a walk-in shower, which they eventually provided reluctantly. The toilet wouldn’t flush, and the room had no AC. There was a notice explaining how to switch on something that wasn’t there, and the room stank. Because of my condition, I use the toilet more often, so when nobody answered the phone, I went down to reception to ask for help flushing it. At 23:30, reception called me and threatened to call the police over my “abusive” behaviour. I hadn’t realised a disabled person asking for assistance was considered abusive. The staff were nasty and mean, and, honestly, abusive. I’m glad to be out of this hell hole. Avoid it if you want a holiday and not to become seriously ill. The spa and pool looked lovely in the photos, with all that light under the glass roof, but in person it felt a bit tired and wasn’t the peaceful escape it seemed to promise. Pleasant enough, though. “Cat fishing” is probably how I’d put it. My room had a classic Bournemouth feel, a little dated and tatty, but it did the job. The bed was genuinely comfortable and it was quiet, so I slept well. It was extremely basic: no room service or extras, not even a pen, and the previous guest’s name and a ♥️ were etched into the wardrobe door. It served its purpose, but I wouldn’t go there to feel restored. Fine if you just need somewhere to sleep.

The team were so thoughtful when I checked in with an adult with a learning disability for her 40th Birthday. They put up a birthday banner and made a personalised card, and were really accommodating about her needs. Everyone was lovely, the room was clean and modern, and dinner and breakfast were delicious. I’d honestly book again for any occasion.

The spa facilities were amazing, the rooms were big and luscious, and the staff were really friendly. I had a wonderful stay for my girlfriend’s birthday. They responded to all my requests and went above and beyond, decorating the room with balloons and banners. The restaurant also gave us a complimentary birthday treat. I’d highly recommend it.
