Brooklands Hotel

The bed was so uncomfortable that just sitting on it felt like I could fall straight through. Also, don’t expect the photos to match what you’ll find: the hotel is dated and mouldy. The window in my room was so loose it seemed like it wouldn’t take much to pop it right out.

The surroundings were the one good thing. We spent most of our time out because the hotel was so depressing. The room was tiny and cramped, and as soon as we walked in, I could smell the toilet. Staff weren’t helpful either. We asked for a spoon and they didn’t even look, just said they had none left. It looked nothing like the photos and was a huge letdown. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!!

The room was very basic, though quite large, with nowhere to hang coats or towels. I’d booked a double but got room 14, a twin, and the mattress on the bed nearest the window was awful. There were large windows facing the road with no nets, so there was no privacy if I opened the curtains. The kettle was disgusting; I had to scrub it, though it cleaned up quite easily, so it should be manageable as part of the cleaning routine. I don’t know whether breakfast is available, but I wouldn’t have taken it given the lack of care elsewhere. There are lots of hotels nearby to compete with this one. I arrived at 4pm, but the hotel wasn’t open. Calling the number posted on the door just rang the phone on the desk, which I could see. Two other people were waiting to check in too. I had to call their 'emergency' number to get a man to come and unlock the door. When I left, the girl on Reception said they hadn’t been busy during my stay.

Shuhb at reception was super friendly and kind, always smiling. The building and room are old. There was no hanger or hair dryer in the room, so I had to ask for them. The bathroom and toilet are separate, and the bathroom smelled bad. There’s no ventilator in the toilet.
