Five of us spent two nights in the spunkhouse. For the price, it was very good, just two minutes from the beach and right next to the co op and town center. The owner was hospitable, let us check in two hours early, and kept our bags until our trains arrived. He even upgraded us to a room with an extra triple bunk bed, which had only minor poo stains. There were free snacks too, including pre-chewed chewing gum on my friend’s bed. The owner’s refined art taste showed in the square of sack above the old fireplace, and my mate, who’s a potato, liked the potato sack material on the walls. They gave the room a rustic, comforting feel, along with the chipboard. The carpet was nailed together majestically, and the lack of extractor fans built up a homely smell. A hole in the ceiling gave us a morning breeze. With no seats or table, we got closer together. The shower had three jet settings that cleaned places never cleaned before. The fridge was cold, although everything put in it got a layer of condensation. There was a homeless man pressuring people for £20 by the ATM, so be careful. We learned from our first mugging. I was feeling ill one night, but a mouldy tissue in the wall comforted me. Don’t touch the brick wall, it crumbles lightly, and I kept waking up with rubble on my pillow. The fiberglass burst through the wall next to my bed. It’s clear they’ve put effort into reducing floor space with the ash can in the middle of the floor. The door was screwed on with gaps for peeping toms to watch you excrete. Every move on the mattress sounded like a trampoline park and filled me with childish joy. You get what you pay for, and this was unforgettable. All jokes aside, the best thing was the location and the owner’s hospitality.

For our hen party, the place worked well enough for a one-night stay. It’s a huge house with room for plenty of people, and we were greeted warmly and shown where our rooms were. Just be careful deciding who gets the top bunk, they’re very high.

BEDBUGS ALERT!!! I’ve got bites all over my arms and really hope my kids don’t get any. The room was barely okay for one night and pretty small, but the bigger concern is that hygiene doesn’t seem to be a priority for the managers. Disappointed.

The only real drawback was the bathroom setup on the top floor. There was just one shared bathroom for single-person use across three rooms, and with three of us waiting to shower, it took ages. Otherwise, a solid budget hostel: the rooms and beds were clean, and the location was excellent for the beach and central Bournemouth, whether you’re there for a stag do or a night out.

We couldn’t stay after seeing the state of the place, even though that means losing our money. The sheets were dirty, the toilet was flooded, and there were no towels. The toilet door fell on my daughter, and the main door only worked after four or five tries. There was no receptionist and no breakfast. It was a horrible, disgusting experience.
