Hermitage Hotel OCEANA COLLECTION

We had a nice buffet breakfast with a good choice, and the location made it easy to get to the town, beaches, winter gardens, and the BIC. The hotel has parking for £14, though spaces are limited, with more available nearby at the BIC. Our room was clean and modern, with a glimpse of the sea. Others in our party had rooms across the corridor looking out at the rear. We'd definitely stay here again.

The rooms are small and old, and don't have much of a welcoming modern feel. Still, there's something about the place that I really enjoyed. Its charm and atmosphere are hard to explain, and I'd happily come back despite the flaws. A good fit for anyone who values character and soul over sterile luxury.

We found parking easy, right outside reception, and the room was lovely and bright. The staff were friendly too. We had afternoon tea through Groupon and thought it was very good value: a soft scone each, finger sandwiches, little cake squares, and a glass of prosecco.

My spacious suite was comfortable, though the view was just the surrounding buildings' back yards. The public areas looked battered, and some parts could have been cleaner. The old Victorian building has creaky floors and stairs, which add to its old English feel. Check-in was straightforward and friendly. The food was disappointing. My sandwich was underwhelming, and breakfast was sparse, with a small selection of cooked items in a covered warming tray and not much cold food. The dining room breakfast felt minimal and thrown together. The hotel has a small snack menu, too. It's near the town and Bournemouth seafront, handy for a short holiday. The staff were nice, but the food service and cleaning could use more attention. It may suit someone looking to avoid a large chain.
