The Maemar Hotel

The place was filthy, with a grubby mattress and bed bugs. The receptionist, AK, was rude, denied the problem, and suggested I was making it up to get a free stay. I had to leave and pay for somewhere else. Dated and tired is one thing, but bed bugs are unacceptable. Do not stay here.

I found a key and tried to return it, but nobody answered the door or picked up the phone. I called several times that day and again the next day, with no response. In the end, I handed it to someone leaving the building so they could put it on the front desk. I did try.

Blood on the mattresses was especially concerning. There was also a party on the ground floor that went on until 2am, then a woman screamed and banged on a door at 8am. The location is good, but I’d advise against staying here. We planned to stay for two nights, but left after one and weren’t refunded for the night we missed. There was no one at reception, and nobody answered the number when I called. Checking in and out was extremely difficult, and I ended up sliding the key onto the reception desk. Please don’t stay here.

The room smelled bad, the bathroom was blocked and shower water wouldn’t drain, so I couldn’t even take a shower during my one-night stay. Everything was very dirty and smelly. They took a £50 deposit and still haven’t returned it after 17 days. I emailed and sent messages but got nothing back, so I contacted Booking to try to resolve it. It was an expensive night for me, £150 plus the £50 deposit that wasn’t refunded. Bad place.
