We were out hiking all day throughout our five-night stay at the Brae Hotel as part of a Hidden Hebrides walking holiday, so mostly used the hotel for meals and sleep. We’re from the US and travel often, and understand rooms vary when we’re away. Our room was adequate, with plenty of room for wet clothes and gear. The breakfast crew is what really earned our five-star rating. They were cheerful, served excellent breakfasts and got our active days off to a great start. We had all our breakfasts and most dinners with the group, and the food and service were excellent. Thanks, breakfast guys!

The cooked breakfast each morning was amazing, and the staff were great too. I stayed six nights on a recent work trip. The room was comfortable and tidy. Hopefully the hash brown shortage fixes itself soon!

The food was tasty and clearly prepared to come out quickly, though the menu was very standard. Service was good, and the breakfast crew was excellent, efficient and served a good hot breakfast. There was value in that. I understand that finding value on Shetland is hard, but our ‘superior double’ had a very cheap mattress that I wouldn’t offer guests at home. The decor and style also felt outdated. The Brae seems to be one of the island’s largest hotels and is clearly set up for bigger groups. Don’t expect much choice, but the service is kind and pleasant. It’s fine as a base for exploring the north of the island.

Our room was clean, quiet and comfortable, and everyone staying there and all the staff were so friendly. On the first night we met a lovely couple who gave us great ideas for places to visit, and later a very nice father and son shared more tips. We really looked forward to breakfast. Curtis and Scott were welcoming and friendly, and the breakfasts were delicious. The boys also gave us useful suggestions for places to see. Dinner was delicious too, and Calum looked after us very well. Thank you.

Breakfast was the highlight of our week at the Brae hotel. Scott and Curtis were attentive, and their delicious breakfasts really got each day off to the right start. There was fresh coffee, a good continental selection and a flawless cooked breakfast every morning, made with fresh, local, tasty ingredients. The atmosphere, music and service were all great. They even opened early so we could grab a quick bite before our early flight. Thanks so much, I’d certainly recommend it. We were there for a week on a research trip. The reception desk was professional and very helpful at check-in, and our room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. It’s in a great location near to the Eshaness.
