I've stayed here twice now, and it's good value with friendly staff. My room, 310, was large and looked out over the bus station, which is very convenient. There are several places to eat nearby, including a Wetherspoons at the end of the street. It's handy for Stansted too, about 35 minutes by the hourly bus.

For a short stay before flying from Stansted, the location is ideal. The room was clean and the service fine. It's much cheaper and a better option than places closer to the airport, and the extra 20-minute drive is worth it. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby, including an excellent Indian.

The staff were friendly, but that was the only good part. At 5 a.m. the fire alarm went off for no apparent reason. There was blood across the car park, presumably from a drug addict. Breakfast was awful, with dried eggs and mushrooms that I couldn't eat. The room windows face the bus station, so we had to keep the curtains closed. Dystopian.

This is one of the worst Travelodge hotels I've stayed in. The corridors and rooms smell awful, and most of the staff are rude. It may often be the cheapest hotel in Braintree, but it's poor value. I'd only come back in an emergency.

It's a new hotel, with modern but basic rooms. Breakfast was basic too. During our midweek stay, the lift floors were filthy and sticky, as if drinks had been spilled. The girl at reception was fab, friendly and helpful.
