Brancaster beach is just a short walk away, and the area is beautiful. The food was fabulous, especially the oysters from Cyril, the local catcher. Staff were kind and thoughtful, and made me feel welcome throughout my stay. My room was far bigger than it appeared online, with a really comfortable bed and a hot shower. There was plenty of tea, coffee, sparkling water and still water.

The food was the highlight for us, especially the seafood pasta, which was one of the best we’ve had. Breakfast came with the room and was spot on, and we had a lot of fun with late night cocktails and card games at the hotel. The room had loads of character, the atmosphere was great, and the price is hard to beat. We’d stayed at The Ship Hotel before and loved being near the golf course and the friendly staff, so we were excited to come back over the summer. The hotel had recently changed ownership, though, and our booking got lost during what was probably its busiest weekend of the year. After a long journey, that was disappointing and disrupted our car rental and weekend plans. I understand system changes can be difficult, and on previous visits I’d had the impression the hotel wasn’t using the newest systems. Gareth and the team were clearly upset this had happened and went out of their way to sort something out. When we came back, we got a lovely warm welcome, and it was easy to see improvements since the change in ownership. Thanks to Gareth and everyone there for turning a stressful situation into a brilliant getaway. We’ll absolutely be back, 150 percent. And sorry this thank you took so long to write.

The setting was stunning, with huge stretches of grassland, ducks and deer, then sandy dunes and beach as far as you could see. There are coastal and forest walks nearby, the sort Norfolk is known for. We had the best time. The food was incredible, with generous portions and a much wider choice than you’d expect at a typical pub. Our room was beautiful and warm, with a huge bed and a standing bath, and it was well looked after. Service was quick and attentive. What more could you want?

The pub has a relaxed, friendly feel, and the staff were helpful throughout our two night stay at The Ship for my partner’s birthday. Our room was spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and enjoyed our short stay. A huge thanks to the staff member who went out of their way to return the phone I foolishly left behind when we left.

We first visited the ship two years ago, and it was great to come back and find new management and a new atmosphere. We went several times over the Christmas break and had a wonderful guest experience each time. The team were attentive without getting in the way, the food was wonderful, and the bar area was fantastic. Hospitality is alive and well in Brancaster. Thanks to everyone at the ship, we’ll definitely be back. Five stars all round.
