Blue Ball Inn

The room felt a bit tired, though the staff were pleasant and helpful, and the food was nice. We also got a complimentary meal. The seating was badly organised: a big group spread over three tables kept talking across the room, so at times I couldn’t hear my partner. They should have been seated at the other end of the pub. I felt sorry for a couple celebrating their anniversary. They’d been coming for 25 years, and the noise completely spoiled it for them. We’d been moved here at short notice after a major water leak at the place we’d originally booked, so we didn’t have much choice. It was OK, but I wouldn’t stay for several days. Maybe one night at most.

I was working in the area and found this little gem. The rack of ribs at dinner was first class, and breakfast was good quality too. The room was well presented, and the staff made me feel really welcome. A fantastic stay, and I’d highly recommend it.

We had a lovely walk to the lighthouse, then followed the coast to Lynton and returned to the Blue Ball on a direct path up from Watersmeet. The Sessile Oak woodland above Watersmeet is stunning. Back at the inn, the room was clean and comfortable, with decor that felt right for an old place. It wasn’t overly dressed up, which suited me. The pub served excellent breakfast and dinner, and the staff were friendly. We stayed four nights.

The natural beauty around the hotel was breathtaking, and the staff were friendly and always smiling. We had delicious food too. My family and I had an amazing stay, a perfect getaway. Highly recommended!
