We weren’t sure how many people would be coming when we called, and the man who took the booking was so helpful and friendly. On the day, the weather was glorious, so we ate out in the garden, which was heavenly. The Sunday lunch was exquisite and there was plenty on each plate. We added a couple of extras we didn’t need, but still managed to finish them. Highly recommend, and I can’t wait to come back when we’re in the area.

The portions were generous, and everything arrived fresh and properly hot. My roast pork was a 10/10, especially the crackling, which was moist and easy to eat without breaking a tooth. It was one of the best roast dinners I’ve had. We went midweek, so it was quiet, and the service was quick, efficient, and attentive. A lovely traditional pub in a peaceful rural spot, with a cosy, authentic feel. We were looking forward to visiting after reading the reviews and weren’t disappointed. Glad we found it, and I’d happily recommend it.

We had a good time, though the large party ahead of us made it noisy, and our food took 1 hour and 10 minutes to arrive.

The entrance was covered in blooming wisteria, and there’s a quaint garden with a large pond. I dropped in on Sunday afternoon after walking Pilsden Pen. It’s a beautiful pub, though it was up for sale and the garden had become a little overgrown. I hope the new buyer keeps it running as a pub. It’s a free house rather than a Palmer’s Brewery pub, with a decent range of beers and ciders. We didn’t eat there this time, but I’ve heard it had a good reputation for food in the past.

Georgia, one of the hosts, works behind the bar, where they serve good food and drink. The owners are lovely, friendly people who also give you space. This is a quiet, tucked-away little inn with a lovely old-fashioned feel and a great price. A real hidden gem in Dorset, and only a short drive from Lyme Regis and Charmouth.
