Artist Residence Brighton

Check-in and check-out were easy, and the friendly staff let us arrive early. The bed and bathroom were both very clean, though the rest of the cleaning could have been better for the price: there were big dust bunnies in the bedroom and bird muck on the windows that didn't look recent. We stayed in the balcony apartment. The furnishings were nice, but it didn't feel worth what we paid. There were no bedroom curtains, and the shutters were awkward to operate. We had to stand on a chair and use a hanger to close the top one. It's an old building, so I don't want to be unfair about this, but the plumbing was extremely loud. When it was running, it was hard to hear the TV or each other, something to bear in mind if you're spending a lot of time in the apartment.

Samuel and Dan looked after me this time, and they're real professionals, great to talk with and brilliant at making cocktails. They're both a credit to the Artist Residence brand. I've stayed at the Artist Residence in Brighton before, and somehow each visit gets better. It's comfortable, cool, and has a bit of quirk to it. I almost want to keep the place to myself because it has that special 'if you know, you know' feel, but honestly, it's brilliant. I can't wait for the (shhhh) secret bar to open. Love you guys.

The dark, intimate setting makes this a perfect date spot. Lots of cocktail choices. I went for a classic espresso martini, and the sweetness was just right. I'd go back any day.

The staff are welcoming and helpful, and the place is quirky, beautifully furnished, and generous in every way. There's an underground car park opposite, which is convenient but expensive. Don't let that put you off staying here. It's a great place to stay in Brighton.
