I feel ripped off at £75. The single room I booked was tiny enough that I could open the bathroom door from bed. Its bathroom looked tired, with a hole in the door and gaffer tape in the shower. The wallpaper was dirty and peeling, and the windowsill was thick with dust. Outside was a brick wall, with constant street noise, plus sounds from the corridor and neighbours. The reception areas are scruffy too, once stylish, I’d guess, but clearly past their best. I’d have been underwhelmed even at £40 a night.

A cute hotel with friendly, helpful staff. My room was small, but its features and decor were great and it suited what I needed. They also arranged a snack breakfast so I could get to the marathon, and were accommodating when we checked out.

They upgraded me to a double, and the hotel was really nice with a great breakfast. There were a lot of stairs to reach my room. That didn’t bother me, but it could be an issue for some.

The staff were amazing and so friendly, and breakfast was great, with everything from a fruit smoothie to a full English. A***. Great place for a long weekend away.
