The room was a decent size, with a large comfortable bed and a nice shower room. It’s well placed for Beacon Bristol and the Hippodrome, and there’s a pretty little courtyard that I imagine would be lovely in summer. A few details were missed: the kettle was gone, I couldn’t find the TV remote, and there was sticky residue on the shower room door that needed a proper clean. The hotel is down a dark alley, which felt a bit scary at night on my own. More lighting would help.

You get a great central location, but the room was cramped and the decor made it feel even smaller. It was hot, with windows facing two deafening nightclubs that stayed open until 2 am. Staff gave the bare minimum of information and barely spoke. Add dust on the doors, hairs on the towels and a £160 nightly rate, and it felt like basic accommodation dressed up as something fancy.

We picked the smallest caravan, which cost us a star. The shower was great, but the sink was tiny and squeezing past to reach the toilet was awkward. Otherwise, the caravan suited our needs perfectly. The guest house, staff and food were excellent, and nothing was too much trouble for the team. It’s ideally placed for exploring on foot. We’d definitely stay again. Thank you!

The staff, food and service were excellent, and we’ve stayed here twice before, which is why we chose it for our mini honeymoon. This time, though, I was really disappointed with our room. It was tiny and not clean enough for what we paid. The entrance door was grubby and its handle loose. The bathroom was so small that the radiator stopped me sitting properly on the toilet, and I’m quite skinny. A larger person would struggle even more. The shower cubicle and the rest of the room weren’t clean either. Once our suitcases were in, there was barely space to move, and we kept hitting the bed as we walked around. There was no wardrobe, only wall hooks, some broken or missing. The furniture looked cheap and scruffy, the bathroom cabinet had water damage, and paint was peeling from the bed. We asked for the honeymoon package, but the bottle of prosecco and small box of chocolates didn’t feel worth £30. The private courtyard had tables and chairs but looked run down and untidy. It could use a jet wash and a good clear-up. The hotel is showing its age, and the room made the whole stay feel poor value compared with other hotels nearby. The location, food, service and friendly staff were good, but we’ll stay elsewhere next time.

I booked last minute for £38 and was a bit nervous because I hadn’t read many reviews. It turned out lovely. My second-floor double room had a comfy bed, a kettle with tea, coffee and hot chocolate, blackout blinds, a nice shower, free mini toiletries, and a good temperature. I couldn’t smell any of the damp or strange odours some other reviewers mentioned. Reception is staffed around the clock. The location is right in the middle of Bristol, so bars nearby can make it noisy at night. It was quiet when I visited on a Sunday, but I’d bring earplugs another time. There’s no parking, though you get a discount at the nearby multi-storey. You can leave bags in large cupboards by reception while you explore, but they aren’t locked. The main gate locks at 11 pm, though someone is always at reception to answer the bell and check you in. There’s no wardrobe, just wall hangers, and a flashing blue and red light that might bother some people. I’d definitely stay again.
