Hampton by Hilton Bristol City Centre

The location and breakfast were very good, but the parking arrangements weren’t explained clearly. Parking isn’t included, and guests can only leave cars in a local public car park at a discounted rate. I asked the hotel about this before booking and still didn’t get a clear explanation. In the room, there was no toilet brush, just one towel hanger for two of us, and hardly any toilet roll. The roll left on arrival was nearly finished.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and even moved us to a lower floor so we could avoid the lift. Breakfast was good, though it got busy at peak times, and making your own waffles is a nice touch. The room was fresh and clean, with really good air con. Having plenty of sockets by the bed, a hair dryer and an iron was useful too. A great hotel in a decent location, hard to find fault with the stay.

Breakfast was nicely laid out with lots of hot and cold choices, though the fruit juice was disappointing. The dinner menu is limited, so I’d suggest the short walk to the harbour side for an evening meal. During the day, room servicing was hit and miss: one day the used towels were taken but not replaced, the next there was a random mix with lots of face cloths, and on the third we got twice as many towels as we could use. Management should look at keeping this consistent. The front of house staff were brilliant, especially Sara, who gave us an efficient, friendly welcome and helpful advice on nearby parking for different needs. They sorted out the towel issue straight away. It’s also convenient for the city.

We found the room smelled of cigarettes, but after we mentioned it, they quickly moved us to another one with a better view and a neutral smell. They also got our included breakfast mixed up for our one-night stay for two, which cost 70£, but gave us extra food to make up for it. The hotel is very nice, affordable and friendly. We had a lovely, cozy night, and I’d recommend it if you don’t want to break the bank.
