We stayed here 16 years ago and it was outstanding, but the new owners have let the place fall apart. The garden and frontage were untidy and seemed uncared for. I’d booked a room with a mountain view and balcony, but on arrival day I got an email saying there’d been a leak the night before. They said they’d tried to contact me, which was strange because I had no missed calls or voicemail. Apparently a drunk person had pulled the radiator off the wall the previous night. We were moved to ground floor room 4. At first glance it looked OK, but it was freezing and smelled damp, which we put down to the leak and lack of heating. We went upstairs to use the shared kitchen and balcony for the views, only to find them closed because of the leak. I don’t believe the owner’s explanation: the area seemed to have been out of bounds for some time, and there was a newly fitted, ugly door. The place looked like a house of multiple occupancy, which I’ve seen a few of in my job. The owner messaged to say there was milk in the fridge at the top of the stairs. Thanks. I was disappointed with the room change and the other problems, so I asked for a refund for the second night and said I’d find somewhere else. They refunded it without an apology, and I was just thankful I didn’t have to endure two nights. We then found soiled bedding, a leaking U-bend in the bathroom from what looked like a poor, cheap repair, a disgusting bathroom, rats and rubbish down the side of the house, and black tape covering switches. The list goes on. See pictures. We had the worst sleep ever. It was Easter bank holiday and there was nowhere else for us to go. At 4am another guest woke us up yakking on her phone outside. Even Faulty Towers is better than this. Do not book. I sent the owner pictures of the problems and have had no reply. You should be ashamed. You’re clearly using pictures put on the websites by the old and lovely owners, The Dolans.

Phil is what made our stay stand out. He went out of his way to make everything smooth, from prompt help with requests to friendly recommendations, and made us feel right at home. We also had to postpone because of two unexpected circumstances before our trip, and he was completely accommodating and generous despite the hassle we caused. That says a lot about him. We’d give him more than five stars if we could, and we’ll certainly stay again. Cheers, mate! The facilities were great and very good value for the comfort and quality. We were there for hiking in Snowdonia, and the location was superb, about a 10-minute walk to the main town centre. It was close to everything but still peaceful, and waking up to the mountain views from the balcony was a treat. I thoroughly recommend Maes-y-Garth. It was a wonderful experience.

Over the August Bank Holiday, we had a peaceful stay in spotless, comfortable accommodation. Phil made us feel very welcome and was helpful throughout. It was a great base for local sightseeing, and I’d definitely recommend this guesthouse.

The view from our balcony was one of many lovely little touches that made this B&B a favourite weekend getaway for me. A friend and I had a lovely weekend, with an incredible breakfast and Tracey and her husband looking after us so well. The place felt homely and was immaculately presented throughout. I can’t wait to come back. Thank you so much 💜

Tracey had lots of useful tips about the area, including day trip ideas and places to eat in the evening. There were thoughtful extras too, like torches and umbrellas to borrow, plus somewhere to dry our wet walking gear. We spent two nights at this lovely B&B. The room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was delicious. We’d recommend staying here.
