Campion Cottage

A comfortable few days in a wonderful home in an idyllic setting. This was probably the best holiday cottage we've ever stayed in, with thoughtful little luxuries as well as all the comforts you need at home. The owner Alan and housekeeper Lucy were a dream to deal with. The whole experience felt perfect, and couldn't have been better.

The cottage itself is beautiful and in a great location, but our stay was a very scary experience. The neighbour, who we were told was employed by the owner as a gardener, was intimidating and ruined the trip. The gardens are connected by a gate, and without any warning he came through the unlocked gate into the property to confront our family about a noise complaint. It was 3 pm on Saturday and we were having a barbecue with four people. He shouted, acted extremely aggressively, came in twice against our will, and said he had the right to enter because he was 'the gardener.' We threatened to call the Police, and he left. We went out for a few hours to get away from the cottage. When we got back, he'd watered all the plants inside the property, apparently to show he'd been there. It was frightening and unsettling. After my mum phoned the owner because she'd been shouted at, he sounded sympathetic and verbally agreed to refund us if we felt uncomfortable. We left a day early, on Sunday, because we felt intimidated, but then he refused the refund and wouldn't discuss it, saying the man next door had nothing to do with him. Gardener, bin mover or not, the owner sidestepped the whole issue. Profit before guests' experience. It ruined our family reunion and our parents' 35th anniversary, which was a real shame.

A stunning cottage in a lovely location. Highly recommend it, and we'll definitely book again next year.
