The pint was a real highlight for me as a real ale drinker, and although the bistro wasn’t available during our visit, there are restaurants nearby. We came to this quaint Herefordshire village for a wedding and stayed two nights. Both were very enjoyable, and I’d definitely book here again if we return. At first I wasn’t sure about a place on the high street, but there’s a large car park at the back, and the staff were very helpful. The room was well furnished and spacious, with an ensuite shower. The old building has a step up to the shower, though that was easier than climbing over a bath. I found it amusing that the floor seemed to slope downhill from the bed to the ensuite, thankfully I don’t drink much these days! The building is listed, so there’s no lift, and while there aren’t too many stairs, it wouldn’t really suit a wheelchair user. Despite the high street location and what I assume is the lack of double glazing because it’s listed, it wasn’t noisy. Breakfast was included with our wedding stay. I hadn’t eaten it yet when I wrote this, but expected the full English to be up to scratch.

The room was damp, with water running down the wall, and there was a big gap even though the window was closed. The plug sockets didn’t work, possibly because of the wet, and the TV wouldn’t tune. There was no restaurant. Breakfast, though, was very good. I took photos, but unfortunately can’t post them here.

That shower was the one letdown, the water pressure was a bit too low. The rest of the room was nice and cozy, and we loved the old pub and building as soon as we arrived. The pub was busy, but staff helped us check in and find our room, and were really friendly. So were the other customers. Our room looked out onto the street, which was a nice view, though you could hear some music and road noise. It didn’t bother us much. Breakfast was tasty, and the lady serving it was calm, bubbly and very friendly. Checking out was easy, and there’s a cute little outdoor seating area. The whole place has a great vibe. I can’t offer much travel advice since we had a few stops and different ways of getting around, but there are several restaurants, takeaways, off-licences and shops nearby, including a Co-op Express and a larger Co-op.

A lovely breakfast got us back on our way, and we left with five-star feelings all round. I stayed with my son for the first night of our three-day bike trip across the country. We were tired and needed a friendly welcome and a comfy bed, and that’s exactly what we found. The people were lovely and very accommodating about our unusual requests.
