We’ve booked to come back later this year. It’s such a peaceful spot in a beautiful setting, and the rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean. The staff were welcoming and helpful. My husband called it a place to test his soul!

We’re looking forward to spending the week here after arriving today, and the recommendation we got from a friend has already proved spot on. Our room is lovely, very well equipped, and has a sunny balcony looking over Buckfast Abbey. The staff have been so helpful with our luggage, which matters because of my health condition, and they were happy to sort out every request, from extra milk to the radiator controls and a shower mat. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent, though the menu is rather limited. It’s a quiet, lovely hotel in a beautiful location with great facilities.

For £91 a night, the accommodation compares well with London hotels charging twice as much. Breakfast is included, and the place is very clean and peaceful, set in the grounds of Buckfast Abbey. It really is a find. One thing that would help is having bar snacks or sandwiches as an alternative to the restaurant dinner menu. The Abbey restaurant, The Grange, does offer a few sandwiches, but it tends to focus on hot meals during the day.

Our room, 115, had a balcony overlooking Buckfast Abbey, and the bed was very comfortable. The room itself was clean, and the location is great. Unfortunately, a kitchen extractor fan below ran constantly and disturbed our enjoyment, especially at night. We were also disappointed by the restaurant: sticky tables and very few vegetarian options. Breakfast choices were limited too, and it didn’t feel like good value.
