Lunch at the Hotel was the worst part of our special-occasion Spa Day with Treatments & Lunch for Two at Bannatyne Spa, Hastings. We were seated and ordered, then waited 45 minutes before asking what was happening. Other guests, including people who arrived after us, had been served. A staff member said our order had somehow been lost and would be made straight away. Another 20 minutes later, the food came, but it was the wrong order. Nobody even apologised for the wait of over an hour or for getting it wrong. The whole experience left us disappointed. Reception was friendly, though not very helpful. We said it was our first visit and asked for someone to show us the facilities, but they just pointed out where things were and where to go for treatments, leaving us to work out the rest ourselves. The spa treatment itself was nice, although it felt a little rushed.

The pool was a nice temperature, though the hot tubs weren't hot enough. The massage was okay, nothing special. For £31 a person for the day, the Groupon deal was good value, so what can you expect? Still, this isn't really a Spa. There's nowhere to sit along the pool edges, only outside, which might be pleasant in summer but not in the middle of winter. I'd give it 3/5.

I had a great time as a member here. I was charged for membership after asking to cancel because I hadn't noticed the small print, but Ollie in customer services was more understanding about the communication mix-up than anyone I've dealt with at a big company. He agreed to a full refund, and I wanted to thank him publicly.

Friendly staff, a good selection of equipment, and it's rarely too busy. The outdoor spa area is what makes this gym stand out, with ice baths, a sauna, and hot tubs. Best gym I've been to in Britain. Five stars.

We love coming here for a relaxing weekend away. The hotel and restaurant sit next to the spa, and there's plenty to enjoy: a well-equipped gym, pool, steam room, jacuzzi, and sauna. The scalp and back massage is a favourite of ours. Highly recommend it, and we'll be back soon.
