Pentire Haven Holiday Park

We had a lovely, peaceful Christmas stay at Pentire Coastal Holiday Park, with local attractions close by and good access to most sights in North Devon and Cornwall. The place was very clean and tidy, including shared facilities such as the dog wash and children’s play area. The static lodge caravans are spacious and well equipped for self catering holidays.

We’ve visited Bude plenty of times, but this was our first stay at Pentire Coastal Holiday Park. On arrival day, they called around midday to let us know our Platinum 2 bedroom caravan was ready, so we could check in early. A thoughtful touch. The decking had fantastic views, and the caravan itself was spotless and finished to a very high standard. The site was quiet when we walked around, and the grounds were clearly well cared for. The groundsmen do a first class job. On day two, maintenance came by to check everything was OK and told us to get in touch if anything came up. Kilkhampton is about five miles from Bude, roughly a ten-minute drive to Summerleaze car park. We booked four nights and managed to add another. We’d have stayed longer if we hadn’t had commitments. Thanks to all the friendly, helpful staff. We had a really enjoyable stay and will definitely return.

We booked a glamping pod at Pentire Holiday Park for a rare family break with my daughter and our dog. We’d been looking forward to it for weeks, but ended up leaving at 2am, exhausted and upset. The pod smelled unpleasant as soon as we walked in, and there was dog hair in sight. We aired it out, but when we came back that evening it was clear it hadn’t been properly cleaned. There was black animal and human hair all over, heavy dust, what looked like dead skin build-up in several places, and dog food under the cabinets. The bedding area was especially bad, with thick clumps of hair along the mattress edges. Just moving around stirred up hair and dust that got into our eyes, noses and throats. My daughter was upset and kept complaining about hair in her mouth and feeling uncomfortable. We have animals and are used to mess, but this was far beyond what seemed reasonable for paid accommodation. By the time we understood how bad it was, reception had closed and no one was available on site to help. We tried the sofa bed, but the smell, dust and hair still made it impossible to settle. The outside lighting also meant we couldn’t properly air out the pod. During the night, my daughter and I both developed blocked noses, itchy eyes and irritation. I also had chest tightness, something that had been under control for years. We had no choice but to drive home in the middle of the night. The aftercare has been just as frustrating. A week later, the manager called, apologised and said a refund had been approved and would be processed promptly. I sent my bank details straight away. Nearly two weeks on, I’m still waiting. I’ve since been told it hasn’t even been processed, and they’ve asked me again for details I already provided. It’s chaotic and unacceptable. So the accommodation was filthy and unusable for us, and the complaint handling and promised refund have been just as poor. I’d strongly advise anyone thinking of booking to think twice. Based on our experience, there was no proper cleaning standard, no on-site support when needed, and no reliable follow-through after the problem was acknowledged. A deeply disappointing stay from start to finish.

We had a sea view from our platinum luxury caravan, and the decked veranda was a real bonus. There was plenty of space for six, with two sofas, a dining table and outdoor seating, so we weren’t on top of one another. The kitchen had everything, including a washing machine, dishwasher and fridge freezer. It felt brand new, as did the immaculate, modern site. We booked at the last minute for a school holiday week and got a great price. The customer service was excellent throughout, with countdown emails full of tips, FAQs and checklists, plus a courtesy call the day before we arrived. The caravan had Freeview-style TV. The only niggle was the internet charge, around £18-£20 for seven days, which stung a bit given the lack of phone signal in this rural area, including at the caravan. When I tried to buy it, the purchase wouldn’t go through. I phoned the friendly customer service team, who said there was an issue and kindly gave us seven days of internet for free. Result!
