We arrived an hour early and started with tea. When I asked about biscuits, they brought us some lovely crunchy little chocolate discs. Then we were shown to a lovely table, set with clean crystal glasses on a rustic country-style wooden table, with pew-style seating and cushions on one side and two chairs opposite. The staff were friendly and attentive throughout. We all enjoyed the starters: charred sweetcorn ribs with a sweet flavour and salt, and flavour-packed Pardon peppers. The ladies had the fish pie and said it was amazing, with a decent bowl of fresh vegetables on the side. My friend loved the chicken escalope with sweet potato fries. I had the Sword burger, one of the best I’ve had anywhere. We tried a range of desserts too, all tasty and generously portioned. After a few drinks, tea and coffee, it came to around £40 per head. I thought that was very reasonable for the setting, food quality and service. My work means I get to eat at some of the finest places in and around London, and the quality here is on par with, if not better than, places like the Ned, The Dorchester Hotel and The Berkley. We’ll be back!

We went to The Sword Inn Hand in Buntingford on New Year’s Eve for a family celebration across several generations, and everything went smoothly. It’s a high-end restaurant in a charming pub setting, with superb food throughout. My venison was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic, and the kids enjoyed their burgers too. The service was welcoming, attentive and professional from beginning to end. We had a wonderful time, couldn’t fault anything, and will definitely return.

Lunch with friends here yesterday was great. I love the atmosphere, and the staff were brilliant when two of us needed to avoid various foods. They were so helpful that we never felt like a nuisance. And the puddings were heavenly.

I thought I’d booked for Sunday, but it turned out to be Monday. We had a dog with us and they were extremely busy, but the host offered us a table for an hour and 15 mins. We shared a starter, then had beef for mains, cooked perfectly and served in generous portions, followed by a dessert to die for. Definitely coming back. Best roast we’ve had in a long time. ☺️

We met for a family Sunday lunch, with people of different ages, and everyone was well catered for. The pub is lovely, the staff friendly and efficient, and the menu is great, with very good food. There are good fish, vegetarian and vegan choices, plus a children’s play area in the garden.
