The staff were friendly and helpful, and the gardens are lovely. Our room was nicely furnished, though the windows were awkward to open and the sash windows wouldn’t stay up. Service felt a bit sloppy at times. The main reason for the one star is the lack of choice or flexibility for dietary needs. I have coeliac disease and need gluten-free food, but they couldn’t prepare anything fresh to suit that. On a dinner-and-breakfast tariff, the £35 allowance barely covers a main course, and the menu can be restrictive. When we left on 2 June, scaffolding was going up, so it may be worth checking on that.

The food was great, and the friendly staff made lunch or dinner feel easy and welcoming. Bay Tree Hotel has a relaxed feel, with thoughtful decor and a cozy place to sit. Quietly rated: worth stopping.

The restaurant and reception staff were really helpful about my rapeseed oil intolerance and advised me on which dishes I could have. Sean was especially good in the evening, and Tracey at breakfast too. The food was excellent, and although the rooms felt quaint and old-fashioned, ours was comfortable. We stayed one night, on March 3rd 2025, and were very impressed. At home my wife and I have a super king bed, so the standard king in our room felt a little cramped by comparison. We asked about other rooms and were shown a couple with bigger beds, so next time we’d request one of those. Getting to the car park means taking a narrow lane beside the hotel. If your car is particularly large or you’re nervous about driving down it, you can park on the road for free.

The staff were lovely, and the evening meal was really nice. But the breakfasts, full English, were cold or lukewarm on two of the three nights we stayed. Our room, Windrush, was cold too. They turn off the hot water radiators overnight, and the electric heaters weren’t enough for a cold stay. The toilet macerator was the noisiest one I’ve ever heard.

Laura, the wedding coordinator, was amazing: organised, calm and supportive, and she made everything feel effortless. Nothing was too much trouble, and we always felt looked after. On the day, the team helped us set up, and the space looked bright and beautiful, even better than we’d imagined. We had our wedding at The Bay Tree Hotel in September, and it was perfect from start to finish. All the staff were friendly, professional and incredibly helpful through the whole process. The hotel has loads of charm, and the stunning gardens were a perfect photo backdrop. We’d highly recommend it as a wedding venue. Such a lovely place and team.
