The Ship Inn

The staff were wonderful all the way through and did everything they could to accommodate us. We stayed one night in a comfortable room while travelling through the uk, and had both lunch and dinner here. The sandwiches at lunch were delicious, and I was especially pleased that the fish finger sandwich used fresh fish. We started dinner with prawn cocktail and crab cakes, then had chicken skewers and lamb shank. Everything was absolutely lovely. We’ll definitely return, thanks to the team.

The restaurant was busy enough to feel lively, but it never got noisy, and we had a thoroughly lovely evening. Dinner was great: crunchy-battered fish and chips with perfect chips, and a delightful seafood linguine with plenty of seafood in a lovely sauce. When we arrived, the staff were welcoming and our clean, tidy room was ready ahead of schedule. Thank you!!!

We were disappointed and left when our main dishes finally arrived cold. We’d waited 1 hour and 40 minutes, though we were told three times that they’d be along soon. They offered us more drinks while the food still hadn’t come. We’d been warned there was a half-hour wait because a very large party was in, and the staff were friendly and polite. My husband’s starter arrived in reasonable time, and we received apologies, including when we paid for our two drinks. The party was pre-booked, though, so they should have been ready for it. Maybe they shouldn’t take a booking that large if the kitchen struggles with those numbers. We weren’t angry, just disappointed. They didn’t seem to be managing and appeared focused on the large party. We’re locals, but I’m afraid we won’t bother returning.

The food was top quality and clearly made with care, and there was a great choice of beer too. It’s nice when both are done properly. We spent four nights at The Ship Inn and found everything spotless and well looked after, which made the stay comfortable. The staff were excellent, friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. A brilliant visit, and I’d definitely recommend it. I’m happy to return again this year.
