The steak pie was one of the best I’ve had, and breakfast the next morning was a 10/10. We came to celebrate getting married and had a lovely getaway. The views were amazing, and the staff and atmosphere were so friendly. Our room was nice, though a little tight for the two of us and our dog. It’s very dog friendly, and we’d happily come back.

We came for a proper Sunday roast during a trip to Chester for my daughter’s 21st, staying nearby at Peckforton Castle. The setting was lovely, and from outside we watched the sunset after arriving at 7pm. The waitress was fantastic and made sure my dietary needs were covered. I’ve had gastric sleeve surgery and don’t eat meat, so they let me order a children’s size roast with nut roast, even though that usually wasn’t included with the children’s meal. The food was beautifully presented and tasted great. We didn’t stay in the rooms, but the rest of the pub gave me the impression they’d be good too. I’d definitely return on another Chester visit and recommend it. Thanks for a wonderful experience.

That terrace view over the green countryside made the 40-mile round trip worthwhile. Dinner was fresh and nicely presented, with just the right portions. We had the goat’s cheese and chicken salad, a steak burger, then knickerbocker glory and ice cream. It’s a nice balance, familiar pub comfort with a more refined touch.

The open fire gave the pub a lovely cosy feel, and we felt welcome as soon as we arrived. We were there with my wife and two friends, and the whole meal was excellent. Food was full of flavour and carefully cooked, while the friendly service was attentive and unhurried. It’s the kind of relaxed place where you could happily stay all day. We’ll be back and would recommend it.

The views and location are really good, but service was only average and we had to wait for drinks. I also couldn’t get any flexibility with dessert: I asked for sticky toffee pudding with custard, but they wouldn’t do it, even though custard was available with other desserts. For a restaurant that claims to be 5 star, I’d expect more attention to the customer experience.
