The Plough Inn

The place was quiet when we visited on a Thursday lunchtime at the end of the summer holidays, so we had plenty of choice of seats and decided to sit inside. The decor is lovely, modern with a traditional touch. There was a good gin selection, and I chose a Berkshire Rhubarb & Raspberry. Our starters came quickly. There was a mix-up with the main course, but they sorted it out fast. The food was lovely and we’d definitely visit again.

We loved the old-school charm of this hotel. It isn’t the most modern or chic, but the setting in a lovely part of Suffolk was beautiful, with stunning views from both our room and the garden. We had a great dinner in the garden and really enjoyed the atmosphere there. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and were happy to accommodate our breakfast requests. They also helped a lot with our concerns about keeping the bikes safe overnight. We’ll definitely go back.

We booked Sunday lunch for 15 to celebrate my parents’ 62nd wedding anniversary. The group included three small children, two vegetarians and three vegans, and everyone was looked after and enjoyed their food. I had the beef, and it was the most tender roast beef I’ve had anywhere. My brother-in-law especially loved the cauliflower “steak”.

We had a family birthday meal at the plough, and despite my forgetting to submit two of our party’s preselected menus, the staff stayed relaxed and accommodating. They couldn’t do enough to make the evening go well. There were children with us, and the staff were warm and chatty with them, which was lovely. The food and service blew us away. We eat at gastro pubs often, and this was the best meal out we’ve had in a long time. The steaks were superb and the portions unbelievably generous. The garden work makes it easy to enjoy the beautiful views. I can’t recommend the place enough, and I’m looking forward to coming back for Thursday steak night. Thank you.
