Cottage 1 was our home for all of December, and it made a comfortable stay for two with dogs. They could run around safely in their own paddock, which was a real bonus. Tracy and Carl were friendly and quick to respond. When the TV broke, they replaced it within a couple of hours. The village pub served great food and had a quiz every Monday. It’s a peaceful spot for relaxing and walking, with easy access to Buxton and attractions around Derbyshire. We even got to see the mega santa tractor convoy from the news. Highly recommended 🙂

Chelmorton was just the quiet village we wanted for a few days away. We stayed at no2 primative croft, where the cottage was clean and comfortable. The views from the paddock were lovely, and we enjoyed taking our dog for walks there. We had very good meals at the church inn and liked the local lager too 😊. We’ll definitely come back. Thank you x

The village pub is at the end of the road, and there are good walks right from the cottage. Lathkill Dale, which is very pretty, is only a ten-minute drive, and Buxton, Eyam and Bakewell are about 15 minutes away. We found the cottage cosy, very clean and well insulated, with underfloor heating downstairs. It’s dog friendly on the ground floor, and the heating was handy for drying wet boots. There’s also a log burner, though the house was warm enough that we didn’t use it. The beds were comfortable, the electric showers had plenty of hot water, and the kitchen and bathrooms were new. We had parking outside and around the back. The spa bath was there, but we didn’t try it. There isn’t much else in the village. A few small things could be better: there’s no light over the sink, so washing up in the dark was difficult. The built-in fridge and freezer aren’t connected to the cupboard door, meaning you have to open two doors. There are only four of each crockery item and no dishwasher, so we had to wash up often, sometimes between courses. The dining table design didn’t leave room to put your legs underneath, and the bedrooms were quite small. We’d read reviews mentioning poor TV signal, but had no trouble. We brought a firestick and watched Netflix that way. We had a great stay and would go back.

We spent a lovely long weekend in this clean, cosy little cottage. It’s charming, dog friendly for small dogs, and well placed for walks. There’s a nice pub just a short walk up the road, and we really liked being able to take our dog for a walk in the private field and meadow.

There were some useful things in the modern property, including a washing machine, ironing board, clothes airer and Dyson hoover. The travel-sized hairdryer got very hot quickly. Parking was at the rear, and there was wine available to buy. It also had a woodburner and underfloor heating. The owners live nearby on the road and know the area. Dogs are welcome, and the separate paddock was a great place to let ours off the lead safely, though other visitors had left dog poo there. Chelmorton wasn’t quite the village we’d imagined. It’s more like a small road with a pub at one end and no other amenities. There are walks nearby, but public transport was poor, so we had to drive. Compared with other places we stayed in the Peak District, the location didn’t work as well for us. We could hear planes loudly at night, as if the property was under a flight path. Some details inside needed attention. There were bins but no recycling options. The wood supplied for the burner seemed to be a laminate unit with a locking mechanism rather than firewood, and the note said we should buy wood to replace it if used. The bath jets pushed out black bits, and the extractor either wasn’t working or wasn’t powerful enough. The rear window had no blind and looked onto the car park, so it lacked privacy. There was Blu Tac on the fridge door, and things like the toilet seat, toilet roll holder and opened coffee and sugar with bits in could have been checked more carefully.
